Romeo and Juliet
Live Simulcast from the Royal Ballet, London
With Romeo and Juliet, Kenneth MacMillan's first full-length work for the The Royal Ballet, both he and the Company struck artistic gold. The Timeless story, best known from Shakespeare, matched to the fine score by Prokofiev provided the starting point for what has become a 20th-century ballet classic: an international calling card for the choreographer and a signature work of The Royal Ballet. ABQ tuba player/composer Mark Weaver formed the UFO Ensemble in 2008 as a vehicle for his compositions. As he puts it, “The compositions playfully and unrestrainedly explore creative concepts of form and structure, with the rich blend of three brass horns plus drums displaying a personal approach to tonality and a surprising tunefulness.” UFO will be joined by prolific NYC-based drummer/composer, Harris Eisenstadt. UFO also features trumpeter, Bill Clark and trombonist, Christian Pincock— who will open with a solo performance.
